The lot comes with a substantial paper trail: an Ownership Transfer Certificate dated March 1, 2021 recording a transfer from a J. Simcik to a Michel Thomann of Hollywood, Florida; a National Fine Arts Title Registration certificate (registration number GD012011460) listing the title as “Tahitian Woman,” the artist as Paul Gauguin, the medium as tempera, and a stated current estimated value of $15,000; matching printed pages from the National Fine Arts Title Registry’s online portal confirming the same registration details; and a separate certificate from van Hassel Galeri of Rotterdam, dated December 14, 1993, describing the work as “Portrait of a Tahitian Woman, nude,” tempera and oil on paper, with a note of markings from a previous collector on the reverse.
The paper support shows overall toning with scattered foxing spots, and heavier staining and discoloration across the reverse.
