Description
Series 1976 two-dollar Federal Reserve Note featuring the familiar portrait of Thomas Jefferson on the face and an engraving of the signing of the Declaration of Independence on the reverse. Issued as legal tender for all debts, public and private, this denomination was reintroduced in 1976 to mark the U.S. Bicentennial after a long absence from circulation, making the Series 1976 printing the first of the modern $2 notes.
The note carries a green Treasury seal and serial number B22193554A, with the Federal Reserve Bank of New York district seal (letter B) printed at left. Printed signatures of Francine A. Neff, Treasurer of the United States, and William E. Simon, Secretary of the Treasury, appear along the lower border, consistent with the Series 1976 issue. Washington, D.C. is printed beneath the serial number on the right side of the note.
The bill shows overall circulated wear, including light toning and yellowing across the paper, a visible corner fold, and mild surface soiling near the left seal area. Handling creases run through the note, and the edges show typical softening from being carried and folded, but the printing, portrait, and reverse engraving remain crisp and fully legible.
