Description
Series 1976 Two Dollar Federal Reserve Note featuring the portrait of Thomas Jefferson on the obverse and an engraving of the Declaration of Independence on the reverse. Issued by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York (District B), the note carries a green Treasury seal and is legal tender for all debts, public and private, as printed on the face.
The note is marked Washington, D.C. and bears the serial number B02939655A in green ink, appearing twice on the front along with the district numeral 2 in each corner. Signatures of the Treasurer of the United States (Francine Neff) and the Secretary of the Treasury (William Simon) appear beneath the portrait. The reverse carries the familiar Declaration of Independence signing scene along with the “IN GOD WE TRUST” motto and “TWO DOLLARS” banners.
The note shows genuine circulation wear, including soft folds, corner rounding, and light toning consistent with age. Several hand-applied ink marks are visible on both sides — a red checkmark and diagonal stroke, a blue cross mark, and a black “3” with checkmark — typical of bank teller sorting or counting notations. A small paper tag numbered “0033” is affixed to the front of the note in one image.
