Description
Series 1976 two-dollar Federal Reserve Note issued by the United States, featuring Thomas Jefferson’s portrait on the face inside an oval frame. The green Treasury seal and serial numbers (B28831060A) sit to the right, with the Federal Reserve Bank of New York seal marked with the letter “B” to the left. This denomination was reintroduced in 1976 as part of the U.S. Bicentennial, and this example carries the printed “SERIES 1976” designation directly on the face.
The reverse carries the well-known engraving of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, framed by “THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “TWO DOLLARS” banners, with “IN GOD WE TRUST” and “DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE, 1776” printed along the bottom border. The face bears the printed signatures of Francine A. Neff, Treasurer of the United States, and William E. Simon, Secretary of the Treasury, along with the Washington, D.C. issuing location.
The note shows overall circulated wear, including light creasing, a soft horizontal fold, and yellow-toned discoloration along the edges and corners consistent with age and handling. A small paper inventory sticker reading “0042” is adhered to the face of the note, partially overlapping the Federal Reserve Bank seal. No tears, holes, or significant paper loss are present.
