Description
United States one-dollar Silver Certificate, Series 1957A, featuring the portrait of George Washington at center framed by ornate engraved scrollwork. The blue Treasury seal and blue serial numbers (D45508826A) identify it as a Silver Certificate, once redeemable in silver payable to the bearer on demand, a note type that circulated widely before being phased out in the 1960s.
The face carries the printed signatures of Elizabeth Rudel Smith, Treasurer of the United States, and C. Douglas Dillon, Secretary of the Treasury, along with the Washington, D.C. district marking and plate numbers D1 and D650. The reverse displays the familiar green ink design with the Great Seal of the United States, including the eagle and the pyramid with all-seeing eye, along with the ONE DOLLAR denomination in large lettering.
The note shows honest circulation wear consistent with its age, including visible creasing and fold lines across the surface, light soiling and toning to the paper, and a small area of discoloration near the lower left border. Corners are softened rather than sharp, and the overall paper retains good body without tears.
