Description
Currency note offered here is a United States one-dollar Silver Certificate, printed with the blue Treasury seal and a portrait of George Washington centered on the obverse. The note bears the printed text “SILVER CERTIFICATE” and the legal tender declaration “THIS CERTIFICATE IS LEGAL TENDER FOR ALL DEBTS, PUBLIC AND PRIVATE,” with the phrase “IN SILVER PAYABLE TO THE BEARER ON DEMAND” running beneath the Washington vignette. The series date “SERIES 1957 A” is printed clearly beneath the seal, and the serial number Q45904179A appears twice on the face of the note.
The note carries the printed signatures of Elizabeth Rudel Smith as Treasurer of the United States and C. Douglas Dillon as Secretary of the Treasury, along with the district block letter H3 and plate number H729. The reverse displays the traditional green ink design used on one-dollar notes, including the Great Seal’s pyramid with the all-seeing eye and the motto “ANNUIT COEPTIS,” the eagle bearing the shield and olive branch, and the phrase “IN GOD WE TRUST” centered above the large “ONE.”
The note shows honest circulation wear consistent with its age, including multiple vertical and horizontal fold lines, light overall toning, and scattered soft creasing across the paper. A small area of brown staining is visible near the lower left of the obverse, and the corners show minor softening. A small paper tag numbered “0080” is affixed to the front of the note inside a protective plastic sleeve, likely from a prior collection or auction lot.
