Description
United States one-dollar Silver Certificate, Series 1957, featuring the portrait of George Washington centered on the obverse within an ornate engraved frame. The blue Treasury seal and blue serial numbers identify it as a Silver Certificate, once redeemable for silver bullion, and the note carries the inscription “This certifies that there is on deposit in the Treasury of the United States of America one dollar in silver payable to the bearer on demand.”
The note bears the printed signatures of Ivy Baker Priest, Treasurer of the United States, and Robert B. Anderson, Secretary of the Treasury, along with the block letters and plate numbers typical of the series. The reverse displays the familiar green-ink design with the Great Seal of the United States, the pyramid and all-seeing eye, and the motto “In God We Trust.” A small paper tag with the number 0083 is affixed to the face of the note in one of the photos, evidently from a prior lot or inventory listing.
The bill shows genuine circulation wear consistent with its age, including soft creasing, corner softening, and light overall toning to the paper. There is a small area of pink or reddish discoloration near the upper left corner on the obverse, along with minor edge wear. No tears, holes, or heavy staining are present, and the printing remains clear and legible throughout.
