Description
United States one-dollar Silver Certificate, Series 1957 B, printed on the traditional cotton-linen banknote paper used for U.S. currency of the era. The obverse carries the familiar portrait of George Washington centered within an ornate engraved border, flanked by the blue Treasury seal and serial numbers Y04808992A printed in blue ink. The note reads “This certifies that there is on deposit in the Treasury of the United States of America One Dollar in silver payable to the bearer on demand,” reflecting its status as a redeemable Silver Certificate rather than a Federal Reserve Note.
The reverse displays the standard green-ink design featuring the Great Seal of the United States, with the pyramid and all-seeing eye on the left and the eagle bearing the shield, olive branch, and arrows on the right, along with the “IN GOD WE TRUST” inscription. The obverse bears the printed signatures of Kathryn O’Hay Granahan, Treasurer of the United States, and C. Douglas Dillon, Secretary of the Treasury, consistent with the 1957 B series designation shown on the note. A small plate number and series marking appear in the lower design elements as part of the original printing.
The note presents in clean, well-preserved condition with sharp corners and no visible folds, tears, or heavy handling creases. The paper retains good body and a bright, even tone with crisp print detail throughout. A small paper price tag is affixed to the front in one of the accompanying photographs, which is not part of the note itself.
