Description
United States two-dollar note from the 1953 series, printed on the traditional cotton-linen currency paper used for legal tender issues of the era. The obverse carries the engraved portrait of Thomas Jefferson at center, flanked by the red Treasury seal and matching red serial number A35967332A, with the bold red “TWO DOLLARS” denomination banner running along the bottom.
The note is identified as a United States Note (Legal Tender), with “SERIES 1953” printed beneath the seal. Two engraved signatures appear on the face — Ivy Baker Priest as Treasurer of the United States and the Secretary of the Treasury — both standard printed elements of the currency plate rather than added by hand. The reverse is printed in green ink and features an engraving of Monticello, Jefferson’s Virginia estate, framed by ornate scrollwork and repeated “TWO” and “TWO DOLLARS” lettering.
The note shows honest circulation wear consistent with its age: visible vertical and horizontal fold lines across both faces, mild toning and edge discoloration, and a small stain near the upper right corner of the reverse. A paper collector’s tag is affixed to the front in one photo, and the note is currently housed in a clear protective sleeve.
