Original pen-and-ink cartoon artwork created for a gag cartoon titled “School’s Out (Western Style),” bearing the name Stan Fine, comprising a typed title page along with finished ink illustrations depicting a one-room schoolhouse emptying out as children run for the door and a comic Western sequence of a cowboy riding off on horseback with a woman in his arms while onlookers cheer and toss confetti. Drawn in bold black ink on heavy paper stock, the artwork retains the loose, energetic linework typical of mid-century magazine gag cartoons.
One finished drawing carries a signature reading “Stan Fine” in ink at lower right and is numbered “5,” while a companion page is numbered “1.” The verso of one sheet carries a rubber-stamped return address reading “STAN FINE, 1128 E. VERNON RD., PHILA., PA.,” the kind of stamp cartoonists used when mailing submission packets to magazine editors. Small holes near the top edge of the pages are consistent with staples or clips used to bind the set together for mailing.
The paper shows overall age-toning and a light rust stain near the top edge from a long-removed fastener. Faint bleed-through of the ink drawings is visible on the reverse of several sheets, and the corners show mild curling, but the ink lines themselves remain crisp, dark, and fully intact with no tears or losses.
