Description
Carved from a dense, dark stone, this pair of bookends takes the form of two giraffes bent low at the neck, heads dropping down to graze or drink at ground level. Each animal’s body is worked into a raised rectangular support block behind it, so the pair functions as a matched set of bookends, with the giraffes’ long necks and legs forming the visual arch on either side of whatever is shelved between them. The bases are shaped as flat ovals, giving the pieces a stable footprint on a desk or shelf.
The giraffe coats are rendered in a cobblestone pattern, with each patch outlined and filled in a lighter tone — likely a chalk or wax infill — against the darker polished stone, while the spine, muzzle, and horns carry finer incised texture to suggest hide and bone structure.
