Description
Hand-carved from a dense, dark tropical hardwood, this standing elephant figure captures the animal mid-stride with its trunk curled beneath its tusks. The carver has worked deep wrinkles into the trunk and forehead, flared ears, and a raised tail line down the back, giving the piece real sculptural presence for a tabletop or shelf display.
Detailing includes incised toenails on each foot and pale inset accents at the tusks, toenails, and eyes that contrast against the near-black body of the wood, which shows warm reddish-brown streaking typical of a dense figured hardwood. No maker’s mark, label, or brand stamp is visible anywhere on the piece.
The figure shows a visible fissure running along the top of the head and back, consistent with natural movement in a solid carved wood block, along with light general surface wear from handling and display. The tusks and pale inset accents show minor scuffing but remain securely fitted, and the figure stands solidly on all four feet.
