Description
Crisp blue-seal detail immediately catches the eye on this United States one dollar Silver Certificate, Series 1957A. The obverse carries the familiar portrait of George Washington framed in black ink, flanked by the blue Treasury seal and matching blue serial numbers reading N33012910A, with no star symbol present in the serial number. The note reads “This certifies that there is on deposit in the Treasury of the United States of America one dollar in silver payable to the bearer on demand,” the hallmark wording of the Silver Certificate series.
The reverse is printed entirely in green ink and features the familiar reverse design of the Great Seal of the United States, including the pyramid with the all-seeing eye above the motto “Novus Ordo Seclorum” on the left and the eagle bearing the shield and olive branch on the right, with “IN GOD WE TRUST” centered above a large “ONE.” The printed signatures of Elizabeth Rudel Smith, Treasurer of the United States, and C. Douglas Dillon, Secretary of the Treasury, appear on the face along with the plate numbers C3 and C721. The note is currently housed in a protective plastic sleeve with an old handwritten price tag reading “0162” affixed to the exterior of the sleeve.
The paper retains good body and a mostly crisp, flat appearance with sharp corners. Some light overall toning and faint mottling can be seen along the borders and lower portion of the note, consistent with age, along with a hint of handling softness at the edges. No tears, holes, or heavy staining are visible.
