Presented as a matched dagger and scabbard set, this piece features a single-edged blade with a shallow central fuller that tapers to a sharp point, paired with a wire-wrapped grip ending in a rounded ball pommel. The scabbard mirrors the dagger’s decoration, tapering to a matching wire-wrapped tip and ball finial, and is fitted with a locket band and suspension ring near the throat. The hilt and scabbard are dressed in white-metal mounts worked with rope-twist filigree scrollwork, raised bead and dot motifs, and a wavy incised border running along the locket and throat panels. Brass-toned bands cap the scabbard’s locket and chape, and the grip is built up from tightly coiled wire winding over a shaped core, riveted at the guard. Construction throughout is hand-finished metalwork over a wood or composite core, consistent with traditional edged-weapon fittings rather than machine-stamped hardware.
The piece shows an overall aged patina, with the white-metal surfaces darkened and toned to warm gold and grey tones, heavier tarnishing along the flat scabbard panels, and scattered fine scratches and handling marks consistent with age. The blade retains a bright polish with light surface scuffing but no visible chips or corrosion pitting. Wire wrapping on both the grip and scabbard tip is intact and tightly coiled with no unraveling noted.
