Folk Art Painting of Hunter with Rabbits

Naive-art acrylic painting on canvas depicting a hunter with a burlap sack of rabbits in a citrus grove at sunset, inscribed on the reverse with title, medium, size, and a 2002 date.

Description

Acrylic on canvas capturing a naive-art hunting scene: a bearded man in a pink ball cap, white t-shirt, and blue shorts stands beside an open burlap sack, a rabbit tumbling out at his feet alongside two more rabbits and a small dark animal. Behind him stretches a citrus grove under a glowing orange and pink sunset sky, with birds sketched in flight overhead. Two bulging white sacks sit to the right, their contents — feathers or foliage — spilling over the tops, with a slingshot and scattered shot left lying on the ground nearby. Signature/marking present as shown; attribution not verified. Inquire for details.

The reverse of the canvas carries a handwritten inscription in Spanish reading “Cesar el Cazador,” “Acrilico sobre lienzo,” “Medida 50 x 30,” and a date of “Lunes 29 de Julio 2002,” along with the number 71 penciled in green. The canvas remains unframed on its wooden stretcher bars, showing the raw construction typical of folk and outsider art pieces produced for direct sale.

The front of the canvas presents well, with bright, stable color and no visible tears or losses. The wooden stretcher bars show notable wear along the edges and corners, with flaking paint, staining, and exposed raw wood consistent with age and handling.
