Description
United States five-dollar note from Series 1953A, printed with the distinctive red Treasury seal and red serial numbers that identify it as a United States Note rather than a Federal Reserve Note. The obverse carries a portrait of Abraham Lincoln in an oval frame, flanked by ornate engraved scrollwork, with the denomination spelled out in banner text across the top and bottom borders. The reverse is printed in green ink and features an engraving of the Lincoln Memorial framed by decorative filigree.
The note is signed by Ivy Baker Priest as Treasurer of the United States and Robert B. Anderson as Secretary of the Treasury, with both signatures printed directly on the bill as part of the currency plate. Serial number B84150031A appears twice in red ink on the face of the note, and “WASHINGTON, D.C.” is printed beneath the seal. The note measures to standard large-format U.S. currency dimensions of the era and is printed on the fiber-inlaid paper typical of mid-20th-century American banknotes.
The note shows handling consistent with age, including visible fold lines, light overall toning, and mild softening at the corners. A small paper price tag is affixed to the front with tape in one of the accompanying photographs, and the note is currently housed in a protective plastic sleeve. No tears, holes, or writing beyond the printed elements are visible.
