Description
United States one-dollar Silver Certificate, Series 1957, featuring a portrait of George Washington at center and printed with a blue Treasury seal. This denomination once certified that silver dollars equivalent to the note’s face value were held on deposit in the U.S. Treasury, redeemable to the bearer on demand – a design and promise unique to Silver Certificates before their discontinuation.
The obverse carries the printed signatures of Ivy Baker Priest, Treasurer of the United States, and Robert B. Anderson, Secretary of the Treasury, along with serial number C17483694A repeated in blue ink at both upper right and lower left. The reverse displays the traditional green ornamental design with “ONE” in large lettering, the Great Seal of the United States on the left, and the reverse of the Great Seal with the pyramid and eye on the right, along with the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST.”
The note shows a well-defined center fold along with additional soft creasing consistent with genuine circulation, and the corners have some rounding and softness. Light overall toning and a few small spots of foxing are visible on the reverse, and a paper auction lot tag is adhered to the face of the note near the portrait. No tears, holes, or writing are present beyond the printed elements.
