Issued by the United States Treasury, this one-dollar Silver Certificate carries the blue Treasury seal and the promise printed along the bottom border that the bill is payable to the bearer in silver on demand. Silver Certificates like this one circulated as everyday currency before being phased out in favor of Federal Reserve Notes, and they remain a popular entry point for collectors building a paper money set.
The note is marked “SERIES 1957 A” beneath the portrait of George Washington, with the serial number L68281026A appearing in blue ink at both the upper right and lower left corners. The Treasurer’s signature reads Elizabeth Rudel Smith and the Secretary of the Treasury’s signature reads C. Douglas Dillon. The reverse features the familiar green-ink engraving of the Great Seal of the United States alongside the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” and the word “ONE” in large lettering.
The bill shows the handling expected of a circulated note of this age, with visible creasing, light overall toning, and some scattered foxing spots along the top edge. The paper remains intact with no tears, and all printed text and serial numbers are fully legible.
