Description
Faint reddish stain and a small punched hole near George Washington’s collar are the first things that catch the eye on this United States one-dollar Silver Certificate. Printed with the blue Treasury seal and blue serial numbers characteristic of Silver Certificates, the note carries the inscription “This certifies that there is on deposit in the Treasury of the United States of America one dollar in silver payable to the bearer on demand.” Series 1957B is printed clearly beneath the seal, and the matching serial number W80367646A appears in both upper right and lower left corners with no star symbol present.
The face bears the printed signatures of Kathryn O’Hay Granahan, Treasurer of the United States, and C. Douglas Dillon, Secretary of the Treasury, along with the district designation C3 and plate number C777. The reverse features the familiar green ink design of the Great Seal of the United States, showing the unfinished pyramid with the all-seeing eye above the motto “Annuit Coeptis” and the American eagle bearing an olive branch and arrows, framed by “IN GOD WE TRUST” and the large ONE at center.
The note shows honest circulated wear, with overall toning and yellowing to the paper, visible creasing and fold lines including a vertical center fold, a small hole near the portrait, and a reddish-brown stain in the upper left area of the obverse that shows through faintly on the reverse. Edges are intact with no major tears, and the printing and portrait detail remain crisp and legible throughout.
