Description
Series 1957B United States one-dollar Silver Certificate, identifiable by its blue Treasury seal and the printed promise that it can be exchanged for one dollar in silver. Silver Certificates like this one circulated as legal tender for public and private debts and were eventually withdrawn once the government stopped redeeming them for silver, making surviving examples a staple for currency collectors building a paper money set.
The obverse carries the portrait of George Washington, the serial number U75648923A printed in blue at both upper right and lower left, and the signatures of Elizabeth Rudel Smith-era Treasurer Kathryn O’Hay Granahan and Secretary of the Treasury C. Douglas Dillon. The reverse features the standard green Great Seal design with the eagle and pyramid vignettes and the familiar “IN GOD WE TRUST” motto. A small paper price tag is affixed to the note for inventory purposes and is not part of the original printing.
The note shows the wear typical of a circulated bill this age: visible creasing and fold lines running both horizontally and vertically, some corner softening, light toning and edge discoloration, and a faint pencil or ink mark near the lower signature area. No tears, tape repairs, or missing pieces are present.
