Description

United States two-dollar Federal Reserve Note, Series 1976, featuring the engraved portrait of Thomas Jefferson on the face and a reproduction of John Trumbull’s Declaration of Independence on the reverse. The note is legal tender for all debts, public and private, and carries the green Treasury seal along with the seal of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, district letter B.

Printed details include the serial number B31465609A, the engraved signatures of Francine I. Neff, Treasurer of the United States, and William E. Simon, Secretary of the Treasury, both consistent with the 1976 series. “Washington, D.C.” appears beneath the serial number, and the note bears the standard district numeral 2 markings in each corner along with the Federal Reserve Bank of New York seal at left.

The note shows significant handling wear consistent with long-term circulation and storage: a section of the upper right corner is torn away, and prominent brown staining runs across the top and center of both the face and back, likely from prior tape or adhesive contact. A pen or pencil notation is visible in the upper left margin, and the note is currently housed in a protective plastic sleeve with an inventory tag numbered 0155 affixed to the front.
