Jefferson’s portrait sits front and center on this Series 1976 two-dollar Federal Reserve Note, printed in the classic black-and-white portrait style with green Treasury seal and matching green serial numbers reading C07269547A. Issued from the Philadelphia district (seal marked “C”), the note carries the standard Washington, D.C. federal reserve note format and remains legal tender for all debts, public and private, as printed along the top border.
The reverse features the well-known engraving of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, with “IN GOD WE TRUST” and “DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE, 1776” banked beneath the scene. Signatures of Francine I. Neff, Treasurer of the United States, and William E. Simon, Secretary of the Treasury, appear on the face, consistent with the 1976 series. The bill is currently housed in a protective plastic sleeve with a small paper inventory tag affixed to the front, which is not part of the note itself.
The note shows light overall handling wear with a soft vertical crease near the right edge and mild yellowing/toning consistent with its age, but no tears, holes, or heavy creasing. Corners remain sharp with only minor softening, and the printing and portrait detail remain crisp and well-defined throughout.
