Description
Crisp green-and-black engraving anchors this 1976 Series Two Dollar Federal Reserve Note, drawn on the Federal Reserve Bank of New York (District B). Thomas Jefferson’s portrait sits centered on the face within an oval frame, flanked by the green Treasury seal and serial number B18575137A printed in matching green ink. The note carries the standard “THIS NOTE IS LEGAL TENDER FOR ALL DEBTS, PUBLIC AND PRIVATE” inscription and is denominated TWO DOLLARS in the ornate lettering typical of this design.
The reverse features the well-known engraving of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, framed by “THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “TWO DOLLARS” banners, along with the “IN GOD WE TRUST” motto and the notation “DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE, 1776.” The face bears the printed signatures of Francine I. Neff, Treasurer of the United States, and William E. Simon, Secretary of the Treasury, along with the SERIES 1976 designation and WASHINGTON, D.C. imprint. No star symbol appears in the serial number.
The note shows a visible vertical center fold along with a small separation at the bottom edge where the fold has begun to split the paper. Paper remains supple with clear, well-defined printing throughout, and the note has light overall handling wear consistent with a bill that has circulated but was kept in good keeping afterward.
