Description
Issued in 1976, this Two Dollar Federal Reserve Note features Thomas Jefferson on the obverse and an engraving of the signing of the Declaration of Independence on the reverse. The green Treasury seal and matching green serial number, B34702071A, appear on the front along with the Federal Reserve Bank seal marked “B,” identifying it as a note from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
The note bears the printed signatures of Francine I. Neff, Treasurer of the United States, and William E. Simon, Secretary of the Treasury, standard for Series 1976 issues. Standard engraved border work, denomination numerals, and “THIS NOTE IS LEGAL TENDER FOR ALL DEBTS, PUBLIC AND PRIVATE” text are present across the note.
This note shows significant handling wear consistent with long-term circulation. A tear and missing paper are visible at the right edge on both the front and back, and a vertical crease runs through the center where the note has clearly been separated and repaired with tape along the back. Multiple fold lines, surface soiling, and general toning to the paper are visible throughout, and a small paper inventory sticker numbered “0154” is affixed to the lower left of the obverse.
