Bohemian Ruby Flashed Cut Glass Vase

Bohemian-style ruby red flashed glass vase with wheel-engraved stag, castle, and floral scenes, cut oval windows, and a flared trumpet form on a bulbous base.

Description

Flared trumpet-form vase in ruby red flashed glass, cut and engraved to reveal a clear glass body beneath a rich crimson overlay. The flared bowl sits above a bulbous lower section ringed with large cut ovals, or “windows,” that let light pass through the crystal clear glass beneath the red flashing, creating a lantern-like sparkle around the base. This is a decorative display vase meant to catch light and stand as a centerpiece rather than serve everyday floral use.

The body is wheel-engraved with a continuous pastoral scene: a leaping stag flanked by ferns and grasses, a turreted castle or manor house with a flying bird overhead, and large stylized floral medallions with lattice and diaper-pattern fill. Fine scrollwork borders and beaded dot trim run along the rim and foot, all rendered in frosted white-on-red contrast typical of Bohemian ruby glass cut to clear. No maker’s mark or signature is visible on the piece; the form and decoration are consistent with 19th to early 20th century Bohemian glasshouse production.

The vase presents in strong overall condition with vivid, even ruby coloring and crisp, well-defined engraving throughout. No chips, cracks, or repairs are visible on the rim, body, or foot in the photographs, and the cut oval facets show clean, bright polish with no notable scratching or clouding.
