Description
Carved from solid wood and finished with a glossy dark lacquer, this prancing horse sculpture captures the animal mid-stride with one foreleg raised on a turned peg and head lowered and turned to one side. The mane, tail, and inner ear are left in the natural lighter wood tone with fine incised striations, contrasting sharply against the ebonized black body for a striking two-tone effect.
The figure stands on a rectangular wooden base carved with a repeating scalloped wave pattern in matching light and dark tones, echoing the two-color treatment used on the horse itself. The hooves are picked out in the natural wood color, and a small carved eye detail is visible on the horse’s head. No maker’s mark, brand stamp, or signature is visible in the photographs.
The piece is in good vintage condition overall with a glossy finish that remains largely intact. The underside of the base shows visible wear consistent with age, including scattered surface marks, light scuffing, and small spots of discoloration or old adhesive residue; the lacquered top and figure show minor surface scuffing but no major losses or breaks.
