United States one-dollar Silver Certificate from Series 1957 changes hands here, a note that once could be redeemed for silver dollars at the U.S. Treasury before that backing was phased out. The obverse carries the familiar portrait of George Washington framed in an ornate oval, flanked by the blue Treasury seal and blue serial numbers reading V44994727A, with “SILVER CERTIFICATE” banded across the top and the phrase “IN SILVER PAYABLE TO THE BEARER ON DEMAND” along the bottom edge.
The reverse displays the standard green-ink design used on one-dollar notes of this era: the Great Seal of the United States on the right, the pyramid and “Eye of Providence” on the left, and “IN GOD WE TRUST” centered above the large “ONE.” Signatures of Treasurer Priest and Secretary of the Treasury Anderson appear on the face, consistent with the printed Series 1957 date, and the note carries plate numbers typical of its issue.
The note shows honest circulation wear, including a soft central fold, light creasing at the corners, and scattered foxing and brownish staining across both the face and back, most visible along the left edge and lower portion of the bill. Paper remains intact with no tears or missing pieces, and the printing, seal, and serial numbers stay fully legible throughout.
