Description
Printed in the compact 1953 format, this is a United States two-dollar note issued as a red seal Legal Tender note rather than a Federal Reserve Note. The obverse carries the familiar Thomas Jefferson portrait in an oval frame, with the red Treasury seal and matching red serial numbers reading A25163102A. The reverse is printed in green ink and depicts Monticello, Jefferson’s Virginia estate, within an ornate engraved border.
The note bears the printed signatures of Ivy Baker Priest, Treasurer of the United States, and G.M. Humphrey, Secretary of the Treasury, placing it within the Series 1953 issue. “Washington, D.C.” appears beneath the Treasury seal, and the standard legal tender clause runs across the lower obverse. Denomination numerals and “TWO DOLLARS” banners repeat in the decorative corner medallions on both sides of the bill.
The note shows a firm vertical center fold along with several lighter handling creases, along with softened corners consistent with a circulated bill of this age. There is light overall toning to the paper, faint surface soiling, and a small edge nick along the lower border. A small pinhole is visible near the upper left corner of the obverse.
