Printed by the U.S. Treasury as a $2 United States Note, this Series 1953-A bill carries the familiar red seal and serial numbering used on legal tender notes of the era rather than the green seal seen on later Federal Reserve issues. The face features the engraved portrait of Thomas Jefferson at center, framed by ornate scrollwork, with the red Treasury seal and serial number A56040222A printed in matching red ink. The reverse displays the classic engraving of Monticello, Jefferson’s Virginia estate, set within the same green-and-white bordered design used throughout the series.

The note is signed in printed facsimile by Ivy Baker Priest, Treasurer of the United States, and Robert B. Anderson, Secretary of the Treasury, with the Series 1953 A designation printed beneath the portrait. Plate position markings ‘M’ and ‘M3′ appear in the lower corners. A small pencil notation reading ’30’ is visible near the top border on the face, and a paper inventory tag marked ‘0139’ has been affixed to the front, unrelated to the printed design of the note itself.

The note shows honest circulation wear consistent with its age, including visible corner and edge toning, a horizontal center fold, and scattered light staining along the upper left and lower right margins. The paper retains good body and the printed detail remains sharp and legible throughout, with no tears, holes, or writing beyond the small pencil mark noted above.
