Description
This lithograph commemorates the 1951 National League tie-breaker game between the New York Giants and Brooklyn Dodgers, played October 3, 1951 — the day of Bobby Thomson’s legendary ‘Shot Heard Round the World’ home run off pitcher Ralph Branca. The 16-by-20-inch print layers reproduced trading-card-style portraits of both players over a sepia-toned photograph of the ballpark and diamond, with ‘New York’ and ‘Brooklyn’ team script lettered across the top. Signatures reading Bobby Thomson and Ralph Branca appear in the lower portion of the print. Signature/marking present as shown; attribution not verified. Inquire for details. The print is numbered 1941/1951 in the lower right corner alongside an MLB Cooperstown Collection logo and an authentication hologram sticker. Housed in a black wood frame with a white double mat, the piece measures roughly 17 1/2 by 14 inches at the image, or about 1.7 square feet by the seller’s own measurement overlay. An Official Artist Statement from Art on Royal is affixed to the backing paper, identifying the work as a lithograph titled ‘Shot Heard Round the World — Ralph Branca and [Bobby Thomson],’ published in 2006; the statement itself notes it is not a certificate of authenticity. The frame is fitted with a wire hanger for wall mounting.
The frame shows only light handling wear overall, with a small nick visible along the top edge of the molding. The kraft paper backing has yellowed with age, and the plastic sleeve holding the artist statement has toned similarly, but the print itself remains clean and well-preserved under glass with no visible fading or foxing.
