Description
Faded ink and heavy fold lines give this 1957 Series one-dollar Silver Certificate the well-traveled look of a note that spent decades circulating hand to hand. The blue Treasury seal at right and the blue serial numbers, P10939967A, mark it as a Silver Certificate rather than a Federal Reserve Note, and the portrait of George Washington sits centered within the ornate engraved border typical of the design.
The face reads “THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” with the certification text promising silver payable to the bearer on demand, and it bears the printed signatures of Ivy Baker Priest, Treasurer of the United States, and Robert B. Anderson, Secretary of the Treasury. The reverse carries the familiar green ONE DOLLAR design with the Great Seal of the United States on the right and the pyramid and “Eye of Providence” on the left, along with the “IN GOD WE TRUST” inscription. Washington, D.C. is printed beneath the seal on the obverse.
The note shows honest circulated wear consistent with its age, including a strong vertical center fold, several secondary crease lines radiating across the surface, and general softening at all four corners. Toning and light discoloration are visible along the edges and in scattered spots on both the front and back, and the paper has taken on the ivory-yellow patina typical of a note handled over many years.
