1978 Miami Tourism Campaign Advertising Poster

Framed 1978 “Miami. See It Like A Native” tourism poster, banned by the Metro Commission, with original Herald newspaper clipping and Beber Silverstein & Partners Advertising business card taped to the backing.

Description

Framed advertising poster from a 1978 Miami tourism campaign titled “Miami. See It Like A Native,” showing a color photograph of a woman in a black bikini and orange snorkel mask, shot from behind, with the campaign title set in bold serif lettering across the lower third. The poster sits under glass in a slim chrome metal frame with wire hanging hardware on the back.

A period newspaper clipping (Herald File) taped to the backing board identifies the model as Gail Kelly and states the poster was developed by Beber Silverstein & Partners Advertising of Coral Gables, Florida, and was ultimately banned from use by the Metro Commission for its provocative imagery. A business card for Herk Hernandez, Vice President of Beber Silverstein & Partners, is affixed alongside the clipping, tying the piece directly to the agency behind the original campaign.

The chrome frame has a chipped corner at the lower right, visible in close-up, along with light surface scuffing elsewhere on the metal. The backing board shows age discoloration and a faint ring-shaped stain, and the glass carries minor reflective wear consistent with age. The printed poster image itself remains bright and well-preserved.
