1957 Series One Dollar Silver Certificate

Description

United States one-dollar Silver Certificate, Series 1957, featuring the familiar portrait of George Washington centered within an ornate engraved border. The blue Treasury seal at right identifies it as a Silver Certificate, a note type once redeemable for silver dollars or bullion, and the phrase “IN SILVER PAYABLE TO THE BEARER ON DEMAND” runs along the bottom of the face.

The note carries the printed signatures of Ivy Baker Priest, Treasurer of the United States, and Robert B. Anderson, Secretary of the Treasury, both standard for this series. Serial number S02855798A appears in blue ink at upper right and lower left. The reverse is printed in green and displays the Great Seal of the United States alongside the word “ONE” in large ornamental type, consistent with the standard one-dollar note back design of the period.

The note shows honest circulation wear, including soft, slightly rounded corners, visible handling creases, and overall toning to the paper consistent with age. A reddish-brown stain runs down from the top edge on the face, and there is a small separation at the top border. The note has clearly circulated and has not been graded or encapsulated.
