Description
Issued by the United States Treasury, this one-dollar Silver Certificate from Series 1957 once represented paper currency redeemable in silver, a payment promise printed right on the face: “In Silver Payable to the Bearer on Demand.” The blue Treasury seal and blue serial numbers identify it as a Silver Certificate rather than a Federal Reserve Note, and it carried full legal tender status for debts public and private during its circulation.
The portrait of George Washington sits centered on the obverse beneath the “United States of America” banner, flanked by the serial number Z00609884A and block letters G4 and G613. The signatures of Treasurer Ivy Baker Priest and Secretary of the Treasury Robert B. Anderson appear at lower left and right. The reverse carries the familiar green ONE DOLLAR design with the Great Seal of the United States, the pyramid and eye motif, and the “In God We Trust” inscription.
The note shows the toning and light soiling typical of a circulated bill of this age, with visible discoloration along the edges and a faint vertical fold line running through the center. Corners are lightly worn and rounded, and there is a small nick along the top edge, but the printing remains crisp and fully legible throughout.
