1928-G Two Dollar Red Seal United States Note

Description

Issued as United States legal tender, this two dollar note carries the red Treasury seal and red serial numbers characteristic of United States Notes rather than Federal Reserve Notes. The obverse features a portrait of Thomas Jefferson centered in an ornate oval frame, with the denomination spelled out in large lettering across the face, while the reverse displays an engraved view of Monticello framed by decorative scrollwork.

The note reads “Series of 1928 G” and is printed for the United States of America, Washington, D.C., bearing the printed signatures of Georgia Neese Clark as Treasurer of the United States and John W. Snyder as Secretary of the Treasury. The serial number D85239766A appears twice on the face in red ink, flanking the portrait, with plate numbers D and D496 also visible along the borders.

The note shows honest circulation wear consistent with its age, including soft creasing and multiple fold lines running both horizontally and vertically across the bill. The corners show mild rounding and one lower corner has a small separation at the edge, while the paper has taken on light overall toning and a few scattered spots of discoloration. A small printed inventory tag reading “0149” is affixed to the note in one of the photographs, sitting within a protective sleeve.
