Description
Five-dollar United States Note from Series 1953-A, printed with the distinctive red Treasury seal and matching red serial numbers that identify it as a Legal Tender note rather than a Federal Reserve Note. The obverse features the familiar oval portrait of Abraham Lincoln at center, flanked by laurel branches, with the bold black “FIVE DOLLARS” banner running along the bottom border. The reverse carries the classic green-ink engraving of the Lincoln Memorial, framed by ornate scrollwork and large numeral fives in each corner.
The note bears the printed signatures of Ivy Baker Priest, Treasurer of the United States, and Robert B. Anderson, Secretary of the Treasury, both standard for this series. Serial number B65370854A appears twice in red ink on the face, with district letter “K” and plate number “K31” also printed near the border. “Washington, D.C.” is printed beneath the seal, and the note reads “This Note Is A Legal Tender At Its Face Value For All Debts Public And Private.”
The note shows genuine circulation wear consistent with its age, including visible creasing and fold lines across the surface, mild toning and yellowing of the paper, and a small closed tear along the upper left edge. Corners show light rounding and softening typical of a note that has passed through hands over the decades, and the paper retains overall body without major splits or missing pieces.
