Carved from a single piece of dense dark stone, this bust sculpture depicts a stylized head and shoulders with a high, wrapped bun hairstyle and a warm, smiling expression. The piece tapers from the rounded head down through a simplified neck and shoulders into a flat-topped, faceted base, giving it a sturdy footprint for tabletop or shelf display. The scale and weight make it a substantial decorative object rather than a small figurine.
The hair is worked in deep, closely spaced incised lines that catch light differently from the smooth, polished face, creating strong textural contrast across the piece. Facial features are carefully modeled, with almond-shaped eyes, defined pupils, a rounded nose, and full lips rendered in soft, naturalistic curves. The reverse of the base is left in a rougher, unpolished state, showing the natural coloring and grain of the stone along with visible tool marks from the carving process. No maker’s mark, signature, or foundry stamp is visible anywhere on the piece.
