Description
Series 1953A five-dollar United States Note, issued by the U.S. Treasury with the red Treasury seal and matching red serial numbers reading B78629277A. Lincoln’s portrait sits centered on the face within an oval frame, flanked by the bold black FIVE denomination numerals, while the reverse carries a green-ink engraving of the Lincoln Memorial. As a Legal Tender note rather than a Federal Reserve Note, it was redeemable directly against the U.S. Treasury at the time of issue.
The face carries the printed signatures of Ivy Baker Priest, Treasurer of the United States, and Robert B. Anderson, Secretary of the Treasury, confirming the Series 1953A designation printed just above them. District block letter H and plate number 40 appear in the lower corners, with the plate number 2445 visible on the reverse border. The note’s overall design follows the small-size currency format standardized for U.S. paper money.
The note shows light, even circulation wear with visible handling creases and a soft, uniform toning across the paper, most noticeable along the borders. Corners remain intact and no tears or holes are present. The note is currently housed in a protective plastic sleeve with a small paper price tag affixed for auction reference.
