Issued in Series 1953, this Five Dollar United States Note features a red Treasury seal and red serial numbers, distinguishing it from the more common blue-seal Silver Certificates of the same era. The obverse carries a portrait of Abraham Lincoln at center, flanked by laurel branches, with the note reading “THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “WILL PAY TO THE BEARER ON DEMAND FIVE DOLLARS.” The reverse displays a detailed engraving of the Lincoln Memorial in green ink, framed by ornamental scrollwork.
The note bears the printed signatures of Ivy Baker Priest, Treasurer of the United States, and G.M. Humphrey, Secretary of the Treasury, along with the matching serial number A34982100A printed twice on the face. A small red “113” auction lot sticker is affixed near the portrait in one of the photographs, indicating prior inventory or sale handling rather than a feature of the note itself.
The note shows clear signs of circulation, including soft creasing and multiple fold lines running both vertically and horizontally across the bill. Corner tips are softened with light wear, and the paper has taken on a warm, aged tone consistent with age and handling. No tears, holes, or significant staining are visible, and the printing and portrait detail remain sharp and legible throughout.
