Description
United States one-dollar Silver Certificate, Series 1957A, featuring the portrait of George Washington on the obverse and the Great Seal of the United States on the reverse. The blue Treasury seal and blue serial numbers identify it as a Silver Certificate, once redeemable for silver dollars, distinguishing it from later Federal Reserve Notes printed with green seals.
The note carries the printed signatures of Elizabeth Rudel Smith, Treasurer of the United States, and C. Douglas Dillon, Secretary of the Treasury, along with the standard “THIS CERTIFIES THAT THERE IS ON DEPOSIT IN THE TREASURY OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA ONE SILVER DOLLAR PAYABLE TO THE BEARER ON DEMAND” legend. Serial number B29320635A appears twice on the face, and a small paper inventory tag is affixed to the front for cataloging purposes.
The note shows overall circulated wear consistent with its age, including light yellowing and toning along the edges and a small orange-brown stain visible in one corner of the reverse. Handling creases and soft corners are present, but the printing, seal, and serial numbers remain clear and fully legible throughout.
