Description
Printed on cream-toned paper, this Series 1963 two-dollar bill is a United States Note, distinguished by the red Treasury seal and red serial numbers rather than the green ink used on Federal Reserve Notes. The obverse features an engraved portrait of Thomas Jefferson at center, while the reverse, printed in green ink, depicts Monticello beneath a banner reading “The United States of America” and “In God We Trust.”
The note carries the serial number A10271214A, along with the printed signatures of Kathryn O’Hay Granahan, Treasurer of the United States, and C. Douglas Dillon, Secretary of the Treasury, both consistent with the 1963 series. Standard engraved border work, denomination counters, and legal tender text (“This note is legal tender for all debts, public and private”) appear on the face of the note.
The bill shows several vertical and horizontal fold lines consistent with circulation, along with light toning and edge softness typical of a note of this age. A patch of adhesive residue and a section of tape are visible on the reverse near the upper center, and a small paper lot tag has been affixed near the portrait on one of the photographed views.
