Description
Vintage French movie poster for “Scorpio,” the 1973 spy thriller starring Burt Lancaster and Alain Delon, presents a striking black-and-white halftone photograph of the two leads locked in profile, face to face, over a bold black lower panel with the film’s orange scorpion emblem. The tagline “Le plus formidable des face à face!” runs above the title treatment, with the two stars’ names set in large cream lettering flanking the scorpion graphic.
Printed for French distribution by Les Artistes Associés (United Artists) and produced by La Compagnie Mirisch and Scimitar Films, the poster credits director Michael Winner along with co-stars Paul Scofield, John Colicos, and Gayle Hunnicutt, plus screenwriters David W. Rintels and Gerald Wilson and composer Jerry Fielding. The lower right corner bears the printer’s mark “Ets St Martin imp. Paris” along with a visa number, standard for French cinema poster releases of the period. This is the standard French one-panel (affiche) format, printed on lightweight poster stock.
The poster shows the expected handling wear of an original theatrical release: vertical and horizontal fold lines from original distribution folding are visible throughout, along with a small separation and tear along one of the fold creases near the upper portion of the image. Corner areas show pinholes from prior display, and the sheet has light toning consistent with age. No other significant staining, loss, or restoration is evident.
